White Fields Foundation is sponsoring two teams to play little league baseball in Homewood in the spring of 2010. The age groups will be comprised in a 9-10 year old team and a 11-12 year old team. Bryan McCabe will be one of our partners in this initiative. Brian lives in Homewood along with his wife and two children and directs the Learning and Mentoring Program (LAMP) in partnership with Faison Elementary and Intermediate Schools. Kahlil Morris, President of Homewood Community Sports Association will be a partner as well.
Brennan and his partner, Leo Wisniewski, will lead this effort along with several volunteers including a group of young Christian men from Oliver High School. Plans to expand teams in 2011 and secure a long-term commitment to the program are underway. Brennan Gaertner was a key leader in re-starting little league baseball on the North Side in 2007 with financial help from Concordia Lutheran Ministries. He has witnessed through that experience how mentoring relationships through baseball can become a great bridge of love to children and their families. Prior to this baseball effort, Brennan gave strong leadership to starting a league in East Harlem, New York.
