White Fields Dominican Outreach – Sunday, Sept. 25

Come join us Sunday September 25th at Good Shepherd Church in Upper St. Clair (110 Hays Road, Pittsburgh, 15241) to hear Jim McDonald, founder and Director of Meeting God in Missions. Rick Wiater is the pastor at Good Shepherd and a MGM regular now along with some of his men. Jim will be preaching at the 10am service and we will gather for a light lunch at 12pm to discuss our upcoming White Fields trips to the Dominican Republic (January 21-28, 2012 & March College Trip).

If you can make the church service all are welcome but be sure to join us at 12pm. Please bring a dish if you are able. There will be many Dominican mission trip alums (Men, Women & Young People) to share their experience and answer questions by first-timers. This opportunity will deepen your faith and awaken an appreciation and compassion in you through God’s mighty work and the Haitian children we serve. White Fields Men’s Breakfast with Steelers’ Tyler Grisham

We are gathering again to lock arms with the brothers and listen to a strong word from Steelers WR Tyler Grisham! He has a heart like a locomotive which is a witness on the field and in his work with young people. Tyler was signed by the Steelers as a free agent in 2009 out of Clemson. He spent the first 12 games of the season on the Steelers practice squad, and was added to the 53-man roster later that season. Tyler made his first NFL reception on December 27, 2009 against the Ravens for 14 yards, resulting in a first down. That led to the game-winning field goal. He is a committed Christian who lives on the North Side where he is involved actively in sports outreach to young men. Tyler was added to the Steelers practice squad in 2010 and again this season where he is working hard for another opportunity to see game action.

New Wednesday Morning Group Begins Sept. 14

Wednesdays – New Group Starts Sept. 14th
A new discussion group is getting started utilizing “Waking the Dead” by John Eldredge. Eldredge is a gifted author and his emphasis is on God’s passion demonstrated throughout history to pursue our hearts is his thesis. He has set our hearts free through Christ’s work in the gospel but we need God’s word and authentic community to begin walking in it! This book is richly biblical and practical. Bill Krahe, our “Eldredge” specialist, is well equipped in leading our men each week. There is a solid band of brothers in the hopper and we welcome newcomers. Don’t worry if you miss a few sessions. The books are in and the Holy Spirit’s got one with your name already on it! This group meets on Wednesdays from 7:00 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. at Amani Café (507 Foreland St., Pgh, 15212) on the North Side.

Tuesday – Men’s Study at The Priory Hotel Begins Sept. 6th 6:30am to 8:30am
Is your faith experience shallow and leaving you wanting more? Are you hungry to experience the power of God in the context of locking arms with brothers in Christ? This may be the group and the teaching series for you! The letter from Paul to the Galatians has spoken timeless truth to the church for 2,000 years. Its focus, in six short chapters is the magnificent gospel of grace in Christ. Paul’s passion for this glorious gospel is demonstrated in Galatians in three main areas. These are: cherishing the gospel, proclaiming the gospel, and defending the gospel. For our application, cherishing relates to the personal treasure that the gospel must become to us. Before we can proclaim the good news we must experience it deeply and personally (i.e. “the Spirit bearing witness with our spirit that we are sons of God”). We cannot impart to others what we haven’t first received. In my journey with Christ over the past 30 years the gospel has become my passion as well.

Please join us every Tuesday morning at The Priory Hotel in the down stairs conference room(614 Pressley St., Pgh, 15212). Our series will run for 24 Weeks. You will grow from both this important teaching and the experience of authentic Christian community. It will bring about deep, personal renewal to you and maybe even your church. Join us for Tunch & Wolf’s Walk for the Homeless benefiting the Light of Life Rescue Mission May 7. Walkers will gather at the Trib Total Media Amphitheatre and take part in a 10K walk along the Three Rivers Heritage Trail on the South Side. Registration is at 8:30 a.m., walk begins at 10:00 a.m. and festivities (entertainment, refreshments awards, Steeler autographs and more) will take place noon – 1:30 p.m.

We will be there to march with our White Fields’ banner and hope you can join us.

Man Saved by God, and by Dog who Says Grace

This incredible story posted on CNN’s “Belief Blog” details a very special man and dog pair whose faith and friendship proved to be the salvation they needed.

Man saved by God, and by dog who says grace

The video was meant to simply make some Facebook friends, and his mother in particular, smile.

Steven Boyd, 39, had taught his dog Djaingo how to “say grace,” and one late September morning, camera in hand, he coaxed the sleepy pup out to the living room and into prayer.

Front paws on Boyd’s thigh, head bowed, man and dog offered up these words:

Thank you for allowing us to be the man and puppy you’ve allowed us to be. Father, thank you for our friends and family, their prayers and support and energy that they give us… Father, I do ask a special prayer that you help me to not chase the neighbor’s cat and to listen to my master whenever he asks me to do anything.

What began as a post on Boyd’s Facebook page was passed on and shared. It’s popped up all over YouTube, appeared on numerous other sites, and it even got play on “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno.”

But the story behind Djaingo the praying dog is deeper than it is cute.

Boyd found his way to the dog just when they needed each other most.

Super Bowl Coach Enlightens Christian Heritage Crowd

Check out this great article by Anthony Spinelli and video posted on Trumbull Patch about Super Bowl Coach, Tony Dungy, and his strong faith.

When Tony Dungy was a young pro football player in his second year with the Pittsburgh Steelers, he came down with mononucleosis, which sidelined him and made him anxious about whether he would be able to stay on the team.

Rookies, after all, were snapping at his heels, ready and willing to take his place at the word go. That is when his teammate and roommate, Donnie Shell, said words to him that were like an epiphany, Dungy told a crowd of several hundred at Christian Heritage School Saturday morning.

When David Reutimann climbs into his race car, the last thing he sees is a cross. The religious symbol is more than just outward testament of the driver’s faith.

“It is there to remind me how I am supposed to act like I have some sense and how to be a Christian in my walk with God on and off the race track.” Reutimann, driver of the No. 00 Michael Waltrip Racing Toyota, said. “The cross has been there since the beginning.”

And so has a strong spiritual presence in NASCAR.
